ROOFING / APPROVAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Who handles the approvals
for your roof work?
Confirm the requirements for the property and work with the responsible authority. Then name who submits any required application, schedules inspections and gives you the resulting records. “Permits included” leaves those handoffs unclear.
ILLUSTRATIVE HANDOFF / NO ACTUAL QUOTE
Four tasks behind
one line in the quote.
This fictional allocation shows the level of clarity to agree. It is not a legal rule about who must hold a permit.
- Confirm
The selected contractor confirms applicable approvals for the agreed roof scope with the authority and records any unresolved question before work proceeds.
- Submit
The agreed applicant handles required submissions. The written scope names the applicant and treatment of applicable fees.
- Arrange
A named party schedules required inspections and coordinates site access; required stages follow the authority's instructions.
- Hand over
The homeowner receives the relevant approval and inspection records, with any outstanding item clearly identified.

Michigan LARA lists roofing as a Maintenance & Alteration trade and states that authorized trades appear on the license. Check the applicable record and scope for the business proposed to do the work.
Keep that check separate from permit status and insurance evidence. A permit reference does not answer all three questions.
LARA: trade-specific license informationWhich record are you receiving?
An application receipt, an issued approval and an inspection result describe different stages. Agree which records accompany the completed job and who resolves outstanding items. The authority determines the stages required for this project.
